I think you're free to do anything with bitcoin, you are free not to spending in bitcoin because you prefer to use bitcoin as an investment. yeah it's up to you, but you should know that by spending then you will help bitcoin to be increasingly exist
Since bitcoin is money, then doing transactions with bitcoin can only help to make bitcoin more robust in the long run but sometimes is difficult to spend your bitcoin knowing that it can reevaluate itself anytime.

Everyone is expecting that price will skyrocket in future and that is reason no one is willing to spend their coins and prefer to hold them till it doesn't reach their target price.
