But it reminded me of this guy, who used 3D printing in order to make a 3-gears device possible.

The CAD surface design to make those work is incredible. Not an easy task to keep the pressure angles on those mechanisms low enough that they don't jam, especially with the rough 3D printed surfaces. Wonder if the models are available for download.
