I think the smallest amount you should give is at least 0.0025 BTC because less than this would make them feel poor for bitcoins, or if you know them good like you sad family then maybe give them 0.01 ( 10mBTC )

0.1 amount would be good though, if your family is rich then you must introduce them or give them only a small amount Cheesy

They wont matter if you would give them small amounts or bigger . As long you introduce to them what is bitcoin and its uses. It would be still a good thing.
