One man can not do anything but the whole people that are intersted in bitcoins can.
One man definitely can, if he is Satoshi.
The idea is that large whales can influence the price, if they have sufficient stashes of bitcoins and fiat.
In the end price is moved by demand/supply, whether that demand/supply is created by one man or millions.
