In fairness what the banks really need is the Ripple network. They do not need a blockchain but a distributed database and that is what Ripple is. Also their gateway system is perfect because banks will make the perfect gateways and the Ripple network will make a good payment rail for them if the nodes work correctly under heavy load.
They already have working systems.
Ever sent money from a bank account to another bank account ?
Or how about interac etransfer ?
They have no reason to buy XRP scam ICO coins
..and they would have to if they were going to "trial" it.
