Agreed and this applies to most things life, no better way to learn than through first hand experience  Getting some pointers from veterans is great but doesn't come close to actually doing it for yourself, you'll likely make mistakes but then that's how you learn. You only need to make sure you start out with a small amount that you can afford to write off as a loss in a worst case scenario.
