today is digital era, we have computer and smartphone.
for me the best way to manage our money is using our smartphone/computer, to write any transaction, invest, saving, buying a needs, having fun etc.
so we will know our saving, our investing etc. and we can manage "the best proportion of our needs"
Thats true, it is really the best way to manage the money if you keep jotting down the expenditures or the savings you are doing after getting your salary, and at the end of the month you should see what you did with the money and how much you have saved, and if there is something you see should not be done you should skip it next time.
Having awareness on your spendings would be a great move for you in able to save money on the partition on your salary . If you know on how to spend wisely on your money and you should prioritize important things first before buying anything else.
