Believe it or not, there is actually a fair amount of legitimacy to the statements about Bitcoin freeing people more financially speaking. Due to the lack of a governing body that directly controls (and manipulates, by proxy) a currency, the individual maintains a lot more freedom and is able to make more of their own economic decisions. These are things not typically found in a majority of other currencies.
