I have four cards. three card give roughly 160-180. but one card give 45 h/s. All the cards are 480 4gb and 8gb. I swipe the riser but did not help.

Get GPU-Z and look at clockspeeds of cards.  Sometimes a card won't properly ramp up clocks under load if there are no monitors plugged in.  You can also get an HDMI display emulator off Amazon for $15.

I see people recommending the display emulators and was wondering if the end of a cheap hdmi wire would suffice?  

I can pick one up for £1 and that would give me two ends to effectively plug in.

does not work as intented ... you need an edid simulation for the card to recognize a 'display'

ah thanks, just wondered if I could cut the costs a little if I encountered this problem
