Thanks to bitcoin we got a new option if you cant trust fiat anymore. But I can say it will be living for long as long there are places that cannot be reached by technology. It will be only us who lives in cities can do it for now.

Bitcoins is very useful but lets not compare it with fiat, fiat is very important for us because we are using fiat everyday and if you are about to use your bitcoins, we are also converting it on fiat. I think you mean criterion bitcoin value. Indeed without fiat we can't measure how much value bitcoin have, since bitcoin designed as alternative currency, fiat is the main criterion for measuring other future currency.
And yes people usually exchange it to fiat for any reason, the main reason is there's still few bitcoin merchant in this world which bring through people to exchange it to fiat for buying their needs.
