The project has funding issues so they got desperate with the bonus. What they should have done instead was ask for money from the elite to invest. They way they will keep the grass roots support instead of making enemies. You need people to create a network effect. How many devs can you sustain with $235k and for how long? It went from a good idea to a potential bonus bait-and-take.
What they should have done is communicate more from the very start and be more transparent. This funding round (for a great project) failed because of a serious lack of communication maybe arrogance or G*d forbid ignorance. It sure looks and feels like they do not have their shit together.
