I still can see it on my Blockchain.info wallet. I can have multiple addresses without problem, and each address has its own balance. There is this possibility yet. I don't know about this HD wallet, my wallet is normal until now. 
You have all those addresses because you may have imported them before and it still remains as imported address when you upgrade from their old wallet. But right now there is no option to get new address when you click create new address, you need to manually import bitcoin address using private key if you like to create and use multiple bitcoin addresses.I just login into the wallet, click "settings", "addresses", "add", set a name to the wallet, so click on it (manage) and create a new respective address.
I don't know what version you are talking about, but here it's fine for me. I can create addresses, not importing private keys.
