I had a few things running at the same time as factomd, including the Burst coin wallet and miner.
Don't know much about Burstcoin, Factom will be using ports 8088/8089/8090/8096 by default, possible interference there, can change these in the config file 'factomd.conf' if you wish.
Unsure about how hdd mining really works though, it could be something completely different.
I'm not from the team but happy to have a look if you drop the logs into a pastebin or some such.
