I think the the future of steem will largely depend on growth of its userbase. If it is regularly getting more eyeballs on its content, then the value should increase. The community seems committed to trying new and crazy ideas to get new users and keep them engaged.

Yes. But they are not doing anything to foment the growth of Steem outside the crypto-currency enthusiast world.
If they don't create a decentralized environment for content creators which does not force them to leave their own blogs (e.g. creating a "steemit button" for CMS' like Wordpress or Drupal) then I think they will go further down. The concept is not bad, but it lacks a long term strategy.

i agree it lacks long term strategy, but thats what happens to all "money first, work after"  ICO projects.  when i think of steem i think : ok so its LBRY but they had a scammy ICO that has dropped price from day one (LBRY had no ICO so its free market/miner price drop)
and its a circle jerk around some dude named ned whos  now rich as fuk ? o and it takes YEARS to cash out or some shit?  what dumass would buy INTO this ICO?
ill stick at LBRY thx, they reward ME as a creator, with NO cut to them, and was NO ICO. steem... lmao... what a joke, you guys kinda deserve it on that one imo
