We were told by the devs that the BitTorrent integration was done Feb 2016. They then spent most of the year fixing an issue with BitTorrent which is that people can install spoofing software that fakes your seeding ratio. If you are being paid for bandwidth by people wanting to access rare content, you can't have that as an issue.
We're guessing they have fixed that and are preparing to launch BitTorrent functionality during one of the next two forks. But we are not 100% sure.
What we do know is that the next two forks will also increase the encryption options. Likely to mean Tor and i2p support, in addition to RingSigs (stealth addresses) which are already available.
Hopefully, a market will also get added later next year so classifieds of private trackers can be posted and rated.
