The question is: after $1000, just how far do you think BTC will drop back? Could we see the days of $500 from August again, or are we stable above $800-900?

In topic above you can find out that after first big rise MtGox was hacked, and after other spikes that bitcoin price had same thing happened. Interesting fact for me is how many bitcoins were stolen in every hack. Mt Gox lost 744,408 BTC, 119,756 BTC stolen from Bitfinex, big difference in amount of coins and in price in dollars. Looks like drop depends from amount of stolen bitcoins. Exchanges now doesnt have so many coins in wallets like MtGox had.
To be short, if there is no hack maybe price can stay high. If exchange sites are better protected now, and if they have some kind insurance (bitfinex recovered fast after hack) maybe there will be no drop.
