Average time between blocks is 10 minutes but I've known it to take over 1 hour on occasions. 40 minutes is longer than normal but not unheard of.

been 24 hours, but that's because of lower than normal fee (apparently Electrum had set it as default?)In quite some cases this ViaBTC accelerator can turn out to be a welcome help for non confirming transactions https://www.viabtc.com/tools/txaccelerator/ Just enter your transaction ID and fill in the captcha, and you're good to go.
