Yeah I think just this meaningful professional dialogue w the players is a good idea.
Thoughts on the 12 game high roller - CONS: Structure was too fast (esp when you're the first to bust); there was no re-entry - as an almost strictly cash game player, I just figured all tourneys were re-entry now on every site whoops; but would be good if re-entry was possible
PROS: Though only 5 players ponied up the .25 BTC buy in, we had fun and I think more will come around as the tourney gains notice; the extra cash game action, presumably bc of the tourney was beneficial for the players and the site. There were mid/hi stakes mix games running almost all night Sunday and Monday; the rake for the tourney was unbelievably low and compared to the stars Friday $530 8 game, a much higher percentage of the buy in is going to the prize pool at swc
The site is run so much differently than other operators (both for the good and sometimes, the bad). Everybody else is raising rake and trying to get you to degen your poker roll on their casino games. Still, the broad software compatibility issues (which don't effect me as I have a PC) reduce traffic. That's the key to bringing swcpoker to the next level. Continuing to listen to the players, slowly growing traffic as other rooms die out or their customers get fed up w the operators' greed, until you guys can roll out software that allows everybody to play easily.
But as players, we have some responsibility if we want more, more, and more. Nothing wrong w the micro player that freerolls his way into a roll and builds it up - that's always a cool thing. But when they give the lowest rake, offer any game at any stake pretty much, and award about $700 in extra rakeback weekly from their (scaled-back) leaderboard, it's time to stop asking what your site can do for you and what you can do for your site.
We need to deposit when we can. We need to have more regs willing to battle it out, esp in the PLO/NL category. The mix guys seem pretty good about this, but like greedxisland (who made a great post) she even wont usually sit and battle the other bumhunters at these big buy in NL/PLO game she mentioned. Lobbies don't look good when there's a guy at 10 hunl tables by himself. Wish I had more time to play but unfortunately I only have 15-20 hours/wk. I guess we can all do more and hopefully that will grow the site and poker, in general.
