Maybe there is chance it will happen in the first place but anytime soon, no it will not be even close to soon.
It would take many years to achieve this and maybe it will even never happen.

I agree with your second option that it might won't never happen, because people believe in USD, and the bonding is more strong. BTC is very good, but replacing USD seems quite tough and nearly impossible.
For bitcoin replacing USD is not a tough task because the power of bitcoin is much higher than USD but it is actually the initial stage of bitcoin that is why not in more places where USD is. The other point is that USD is supported by only one nation while bitcoin is supported by the people from all over the world who know it.
but i do not think that it is such an easy job as USD is one of the most stable fiat currency and not only USA but so many other countries are also depending on USD for their economy and that is the reason that we can say that replacing USD by bitcoin is not such a easy job. it can only be possible that all the users of USD reject the use of USD and start using bitcoin.
But the real problem is not the current performance of the USD compared to other fiat currencies, the problem is in the entire financial system behind all fiat money that make the USD and all currencies simply paper without intrinsic value that can eventually crash and lead us to lose our assets, in that case I have no doubt that bitcoin could be a better option to store our value though I don't think it can displace the USD soon.
