Re: Politicizing mining is about the single most dangerous thing that can happen

the problems we’re currently facing are rooted not so much in technical disagreement but in personal issues and deep misunderstanding. If we are to make progress in solving these issues, the first thing that needs to take place is we need to stop assuming bad intentions on the part of others - I sincerely believe we’re all trying to do what we think is best for Bitcoin. But there are some serious issues we need to address…and it won’t be easy for everyone. Big mistakes have been made all around and fixing the problems will require accepting this. We must set our ego aside and focus on what’s best for the community and our future.

(...)

I ask for your help as a fellow Bitcoiner and as a friend to help end this silly dispute that’s been tearing apart our community. I know it won’t be easy to heal wounds, but we’ve got to stop with this petty tit-for-tat proxy war on reddit and we’ve got to stop politicizing mining - we need to find a better way of having all our concerns addressed and resolve issues without having to polarize entire groups of people against one another who, in the end, are not the cause of the problem. It’s not their fault.

Well this all sounds very pleasant, but I can't help but note that the pleasant sounding words about avoiding polarisation are being posted from an account that isn't widely regarded as a source of pleasant sounding words.  An account that up until now has been rather fond of revelling in polarisation.  Are you feeling okay, ice?   Tongue

I mean, sure, it's still assigning blame to people you aren't personally a fan of, but still, this is refreshing.  In all seriousness, playful jabs aside, I hope this is the start of a trend.  An important point made and not a single meme in sight.   Although it appears you aren't entirely on board with the message that this civil war needs to end peacefully and with unity, as in other threads it sounds like you'd rather escalate the conflict:

Your presumption that those of us who remember the NotXT and NotClassic and PseudoNode version signaling wars suddenly forgot about sybil attacks is so hideously stupid as to be laughable.  In this very thread, I already posted a *cough* joke *cough* about spinning up "a few proxies."   Wink

SWUASF may or may not work.  The larger point is it signals a turn in the tide of the battle.  Core is going on the offensive and now Unlimite_ must defend.

Not exactly the words of someone who wants to bring the community together, so where are you going with this?

I've been calling for an end to the "assuming bad intentions on the part of others" for a while now, so I can certainly get behind the message in the open letter.  One side hurls abuse about Gavin/Roger/etc, the other throws insults about Core/Blockstream/etc.  Everyone sees bad actors and boogeymen everywhere because it's all people are capable of talking about.  It has to end or we can't move forward.

Everyone should now be coming to the rapid realisation that the more we berate, antagonise and ridicule each other, the more people dig their heels in, strengthen their resolve and try to fight.  The more we make accusations about who's plotting what, which group or person is trying to overthrow Bitcoin, who the next benevolent dictator is and so on, the less anyone seems able to trust at all.  We're all guilty of it in some form or another and it needs to stop now.  No more pot-shots at personalities you disagree with, no more character assassinations, no more unfounded accusations of ill-intent.  Discuss ideas:
