I'm new to NXT and Ardor and looking to invest a little btc into something. I don't really understand the split now -can someone please explain to me difference / relationship between nxt/ardor and which would have more development this year? Thanks!

NXT 1.0 is in maintenance, bug fixes only.
Ardor is all the rage now, currently in testnet. It's based on NXT 1.0 but has much better scalability, ~35x more scaleable than Bitcoin.
You need NXT 1.0 coins to receive IGNIS child chain coins in Ardor in Q3, 2017 when Ardor is launched.
Its not NXT 1.0, its Nxt.
Nxt and Ardor will be used for different use cases. Nxt running smooth solid and secure since 2013 in production.
