Having users sign-up and email verification prevents having bots littering the faucet. This means two things: 1. The satoshi won't go in someone's wallet, draining the faucet in a week and 2. It generates better traffic for ad networks. If I get one million impressions for a banner it won't generate income if half of that is from bots. Without income from the ad networks we can not survive.

Also, the process is pretty straightforward and it only takes a minute to sign-up.
