Hello, all

Has anybody suceeded in building 8x GPU mining rig on Ubuntu or Win10 ?

I have MSI Z97 gaming 5 motherboards and they work great with 7 GPUs.
I tried this adapter http://www.ebay.com/itm/PCI-E-4X-Female-to-NGFF-M-2-M-Key-Male-Adapter-Power-Cable-with-Converter-Card-/311414541676 and this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/PCI-E-1X-Expansion-Kit-1-to-3-Port-Switch-Multiplier-HUB-Riser-Card-USB-Cable-/191949792720
Both didn't help to work 8th GPU. Though here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9z5bmjEepQ&t=21s the rig is built.
Please share your expertise in this question

Thanks,
Serge

in that video they are using a 3x1 PCIe expander card just like the one you linked too, the common Chinese ones are a bit unstable but you are missing an important piece regardless which expander you use. the BIOS needs to be edited to support that many GPUs. MSI won't formally support it with that motherboard as MSI did not qual that many lanes on the Z97 but you can hack it to do so, I didn't look close but I would hope that video discusses it because there is no way it won't work without a BIOS edit.
