For now I don't think it still possible to mining bitcoin using desktop computer as the processing capacity is very minimal. But you can still mining altcoins. I wish that is possible I could have used my computer for it. Though buying tools that you can use to mining bitcoin is a worthwhile investment if you have the capital.
