Most of the Bitcoin long term holders I've seen so far have not been disappointed by the currency. I think that seeing your holdings going up in value should be something good, but something even better is the possibility of having total control over your own money, without having to depend on third parties.
That is right, there are a lot of long term bitcoin holders who are really making a fortune from it. Having such a fortune and not dissapointing them as a investment, bitcoin is really a progress. Having bitcoin as an asset is really unpredictable because of its volatility making it a big challenge to the investors. I think if I also invest on bitcoin the time I have heard of it, maybe I am one of these guys that made a fortune from bitcoin.
