Is it still possible to mine for bitcoins using a normal desktop computer nowadays?
No don't mine using your desktop because it will damage your desktop,because as of now bitcoin is mining at hard level to mature the coins. So you need to buy a specialized software for mining the bitcoins.
It's true my brother, my desktop got damage as a result of mining at home with it.
