Why this is even in the news? The earthquake had a magnitude of just 5.9, and it had a depth of 43 km. This means that the number of casualties are likely to be very low. Also, the epicenter was some 70 km away from Manila in the South China Sea.

An earthquake is always news, there is the chance that no lives are lost but there are going to be probably some economic repercussions, so it is important.

Why wonder if this temblor is on news? With or without casualties, an earthquake is an earthquake. This kind of disturbances are very important for all people to know. People needs to be informed of something like this for them to be aware and be prepared. There are news about the "Big One" hitting places in this country and news like this makes people to be mindful of this temblor that can result to disaster and casualty.

A news like this, small or big will always be important.

Do you mean news of catastrophes or warnings about an impending problem for the inhabitants of the region? Of course, in my opinion, both are very important aspects for solving important problems.
