No Internet, obligatory military service, you could get imprisoned for not crying on Kim's funeral...
I'm quite sure many North Koreans would run South if they were allowed to.
Also, most homeless people in the Western world are like that by choice.

It is true that the North Koreans are much poorer than their South Korean neighbors. But only a minority will be willing to migrate to the South, and those too, mostly for economic purposes. Recently, analysts have noticed a dip in defections to the South, and many believe that the improving economy of the DPRK has played a major part in this.
This is because the North Korean regime cripples the psyche of the people. They can no longer live in normal society. They used to do everything for the team and after the approval of the government. Getting in a free country they don't know what to do. Wild animals from the zoo are not released into the wild. They die.
