I have a spare 6 pin sata port on my EVGA supernova modular PSU. If I buy a 6 pin male to 6 pin male modular cable, can I plug that into my PCIE riser to power it safely?
I really need an answer to this if anybody could help
THERE ARE NEW MODEL PCIE RISER CARDS--
These new models have 6-pin female PCIe connectors on the upper component card, with the graphic -card slot. It would be physically possible to use a male-male PSU PCIe cable to power the card, rather than a SATA-to-6-pin PCIe adapter supplied with the riser kit.
1) I don't know the answer.
2) The riser card was not designed that way.
3) You could do ground-breaking research and try it on an old graphics card you no longer need. Be sure to make a video of the process.
It may very well work, the new riser cards have over-voltage protection. --scryptr
