I can see the price in the $ 3000 range, but without a solution for slow confirmations and high fees, I don't see the price staying in that range for long.

Definitely right. Add up the price hike that will make the transaction fees look like they are expensive.
Example is Coinbase with a 40k satoshis fee. How much that will be when the bitcoin price starts hitting $3000.
New users might thing that is a hell of a price so why bother getting into it. Instead, they will turn to Moneygram or Western Union or other sending money companies.
If only the number of transactions that were stucked there could be fixed then it might go flawless.
