I would not say it is dead, but I also wouldn't necessarily vouch for it until we see more. I suppose it depends how pessimistic you are and also how much you have in the coin. My recommendation for people having problems with syncing is to delete your entire block chain and related block chain files and try resync from scratch...I don't know for sure though, I only know what I experienced.
