After you get your degree in IT, you should study some more or get industry recognized certifications, such as from Apple, Microsoft, Cisco ... there are plenty others. Some focus on security, some on web development, some on applications development, some on networking ...

If you don't know what to do, a good introductory certification to get is CompTIA A+, at the very least you will understand a wide range of topics.

Then you can go get a job in almost any IT field, and see where you want to go from there.
