From a small(er) miner, who's been mining since the beginning (as in pre-Mt. Gox)...the key is to mine continuously, which improves your reward rate. I think most of us mine at Kano because of (1) transparency (to the degree one should expect in such an operation), (2) clean, simple UIs that don't intend to dazzle with brilliance (although I'm sure Kano could do the dazzle with brilliance thing quite well if he chose to...to us miners, it is inconsequential and takes up the operator's time for nonproductive reasons), and (3) at least up to a few weeks ago, a shared discussion board predilection with chicken jokes.
