There are no plans currently to change the PoW or merge with another coin.
Is there other options in supporting a full node like a simple step by step setup on a raspberrypi like bitcoin etc.
Yes, actually just last week ben-btc released instructions on how to set up a full node on any VPS with a single command. The script runs an automated setup of a node. I'm sure the script would work just as well on a personal computer of any kind. Here's a link to the instruction thread on reddit:
