Say what? Why is that? How exactly do you get "refugee status". I mean, wouldn't it be enough that you fled from those countries?
To receive the refugee status, first you need to register in the Turkish-controlled refugee resettlement camps. And only Sunni Muslims are allowed inside these camps by the Turkish backed militias. Also, almost all of the non-Sunnis in Syria are backing Assad. So they are more likely to stay behind in Syria, rather than trying to immigrate to the EU.

I doubt exhausted Yazidis and Christians are going to trek all the way south of the Mediterranean just to cross. Besides, I heard most of the traffickers loading "refugees" into those boats show preference to Muslims anyway.I also remember that some people are pointing out the one in charge of immigration into Europe was a Turk herself.
