People might remember a news item last year about an underage prostitute who had sex with dozens of police officers in Oakland. The girl was not paid for her encounters with police, instead they gave her secret information about upcoming "prostitution stings" so she would not get caught.

Today her lawyer managed to get the city to pay for the romantic interludes of its officers.

Oakland will pay $989,000, of which $973,000 will go to her lawyer, and she will receive $16,000, which works out to $20 per blowjob and $40 per normal sex act.

Should she have gotten more?

This is a simple case of the failure of the society and she became a victim of it and there is nothing anyone can do about it. Despite the morality view might want to attach to it as it relates to the eventual payment she got, the fact still remains that the law will take its course as what is the rightful amount she is due for if the police officers had paid for her service? And for the lawyer, I believe the payment is just as a result of the failure of the police force and not really a payment largesse for him.
