The one who is very addicted can't think normal and the only thing he knows is how he will have a money to gamble like his whole world is to gamble only .It is the worst thing that gambling can make to a person .There you can limit it if you do when you play like you said spend what you can afford to lose.
That how addiction works, it will make a gambler lose his control and all he will do is just to gamble until he lose his money. Once you are addicted you can only enjoy a temporary winning because if you win you will still continue to gamble to fulfill that urge inside and we all know that gamblers loses in the long run.
