There are some disadvantages with bitcoin like the fees,confirmation times, etc but not a lot and this is only temporary. I would still use bitcoin for daily transactions even if it becomes number two since my local exchange only accepts bitcoin.

If the price of bitcoin keeps going down until the end of the weekend then there's a chance that OP could be correct.

There was this one coin that matched bitcoin 1:1 I believe it was called zcash after people found out about it the price went down pretty fast.
