I think the queue is better than the alternative where either  (1) whoever pays the most gas is first in line  or (2) they just raise as much money are people are willing to fork over.  

It isn't perfect but at least I (as a commoner) can participate too if I get lucky.  I'm at ~4750 so hoping to get in...
