The government can regulate the usage of bitcoin but not as a currency that will replace their own.
USD is their representation and they can control it, imagine you replace it with something you are not in control, it does not make sense.

Yeah. Since Bitcoin is decentralized, they can't control it to their own rules and needs. In contrast, fiat currencies like the USD is under their control being issued by central banks, which makes them centralized and easier to manipulate.

That is why, I believe that in the future fiat currencies would be upgraded to the digital world where each would rely on their own private blockchain secured by the government. That way, countries would have complete transparency over every transaction made by its citizens, and offer services such as: ID issuance, transfer of ownership, among others via an immutable ledger.

Nevertheless, while Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies won't replace traditional fiat currencies in the future, they will co-exist each other for years to come. By that time, we would be able to exchange any kind of cryptocurrency to fiat or viceversa in a simple and hassle-free way. Just sharing my thoughts. Grin
