I don't think it will lower the threshold by very much but the main point is: why should we worry about the threshold limit?
It should be considered as mining "difficulty" and we need to keep in mind that it sets itself in a equilibrium. E.g. i did some claims in the past but i'm not going to now, some people are still willing to claim, the threshold is set high by the people that are willing to claim and accept current rewards \ threshold levels.
I'd like to mine BTC with my PC too but i can't, since many many other machines are doing it atm. It's the same for XRB.
