I'm impressed of the Kraken bitcoin fee to send bitcoin to a wallet. It's 2mBTC, around 3$ !!!
Why is it so high?
The ripple fee is only 0.02 ripple therefore 0.0004 $!!
The best way is not withdraw the bitcoins not only from exchanges but also from wallets to move or something,
It's much better faster and cheaper with ripple, doge etc, less fee and fast but the issue is to convert back to bitcoin as we can lose some money
If the amount is not very small this method is a loser.
If you are not careful enough, since you'll buy the altcoin higher than you sell it, also you lose some 0.2%+0.2% to the exchanges, maybe less if you buy directly an altcoin.
At the end, for spending, you may end up losing even more % since you'll feed shapeshift or similar company.
And if you want to keep your coins for long the high volatility may be your enemy.
Keep the money in the coin of your choice and avoid too much exchange if you don't need it. Keep a wallet of your own, fill it with big money instead of small amounts more often and you will be fine.
