Anything is possible...so yes, it can.

But statistically...the chances, that it won't is probably much much bigger and probable.

I respectfully disagree. Yes, it may seem possible but the idea behind gambling is that it creates and endless cycle of people going-in and out of it regardless if they won or lost. Still, the bottomline is they will still go back to gamble their money until they realize that all of their earnings are gone. Gambling is only profitable short-term and shall be moderated because of its addicting effects. I know a lot of people who lost everything even their families due to gambling. The one thing that people should always know before gambling their stuff is to know when to stop.

Gambling is neither profitable in the short term or long term. In the short term its may seem that one may make a profit but then one may be unlucky as well. There is no assurance that in short term the game may end in your favor and it just might be a big loss. The only thing important is like you said is getting control over their minds and keep gambling to a mode of entertainment and not earnings.

But it is also the fact that when a person come to the field of gambling and he start to spend time in gambling with heart and he test different fields in gambling then he slowly learn about all the aspects of gambling and he slowly start to learn that how he have to bet and where it is beneficial to bet and he also learn about the odds in gambling. So in that case we can say that this person will win more than a new comer so in that way we can also say that in long term gambling is beneficial.
