Gambling serves as a form of entertainment for me, so It does helps me get my mind off stressful issues that arise from my job in the day, but I would always remind myself to gamble what I can afford to lose, and sometimes when I got really lucky on a winning streak, I would withdraw the winnings out and use the money to purchase all the items I listed out in my shopping list 
So as long as you watch yourself the gambling is a good thing? He only means that having a self-limitation on the amount that he wager on gambling really helps to not abused gambling. I personally relate to him because I gamble just to release some stress from my job. My work is full of pressure from my boss and gambling is a good stress reliever especially when I won huge amount out of small starting money. Being a stress reliever is the only what gambling do good in my life.
