You are basically telling god... that you know what is best, more than god does
You're assuming things. I pray to myself not to god. It increases my confidence and helps me do better.
Praying to god? I don't really get the point of that either. Maybe it helps some people have more confidence and peace, not me.

Why are praying for yourself, praying is a solemn request for help or expression of thanks addressed to God based on wikipedia and you are not a God. People are praying because they want to tell God what they want, God knows everything but He needs faith in able to accept prayer only those who have faith will be answered prayer.

Latin roots of the word doesn't involve god anywhere. Prayer doesn't necessarily involve god.
Prayer is just a way to encourage oneself, it's not an assurance that you will be successful in your goals but it will motivate you to make it happen because you believe that there is someone beside you through out achieving your goal.
