Genesis addresses were given away for free. Dev team has never asked any money for anything. Dev has some genesis addresses themselves to fund the whole venture but does not sell them. In fact, dev has given away the private keys to some of those addresses so the public can use them as a faucet.

N.B.: don't fall for anyone who tries to sell you a genesis address. They will still have the private key.
