If I understand it correctly, than you have to choose a differnt folder and port or you destroy your bitcoin core install.
So better - as usual - save your wallet.dat somewhere safe. Maybe twice on different place wouldn't be a bad idea.

There's nothing to be mixed up. BCC or BCH wiil be a part of Bitcoin that has gotten so annoyed with ridiculous bullshit of Core and defecting of regular users (i've seen estimate about 50% , that's why price has dropped to 1700$). Because of that Bitcoin BIP148 will be decreased in value, if speculators and whales won't step in.
