I was under the impression that in buying DP I was buying the official currency of Scrypto. Therefore, if Scrypto became popular, the value of my DP would necessarily increase. Am I mistaken?

Im wondering also that....If DP is just the currency for Scrypto.... and the only thing u do with Scrypto, is to "tip" others .... then why do we want to purchase a coin thats only gonna be used to tip people? Wheres the benefit in that?

DigitalPrice is not the currency for Scrypto.io. There is EVO and MOTO coin those allows you to tip in Scrypto.io aswell. The main currency for Scrypto.io will be Scrypto coin

What is your source? Why do many people on this forum appear to believe DP is the primary coin for Scrypto? What led them to believe this? Is the basis of this assumption documented anywhere?

Yes, DigitalPrice has a roadmap to to develop a social media site and they did, its name is Scrypto. So, DigitalPrice had to be the central coin, makes sense now???
