That word, "purpose", we hear everywhere now is just a shitty ICO marketing hype to make people believe their coin is the best ever.You can apply this to any coin. It is a pure nonsense. The purpose of any coin (outside speculate and make money) is to be reliable, secure and used by a lot of people.
Also coins that have only one "great new purpose that will kill the game" are generally the coins that did the biggest losses on the past year.
I wouldn't necessarily want to confirm that. There are some great projects with very ambitious but transparent goals that performed really well. Just check out all those top 100 projects on coinmarketcap.
