I never understood audiobooks until a friend of mine told me he's always listening to them while driving, working, or doing whatever that doesn't allow him to actually read. And that is saves him a ton of time. He was also very shocked how people don't like audiobooks. I later started listening to audiobooks to put me to sleep. If I was reading, I had to have a light on and I wasn't really able to sleep, but if I just put my headphones in I would fall asleep in minutes. I don't really remember everything that I listened to, but I do know that I listened to Stephen Hawking's books at some point.

If you begin listening for pleasure rather than assisting you to sleep then make sure you find one that has a great narrator.  The issue with audiobooks is that you need two things to happen; a great author and a great narrator.  I've listened to some books that were obviously great but the narrator ruined it.  If you care, the Harry Potter books have probably the greatest narrator ever; if you pick them up get the ones narrated by Jim Dale.
